The AIA sponsors several events throughout the year. Here is our calendar at a glance.


Quarterly Membership Meetings


The AIA holds 4 quarterly Membership Meetings throughout the year - usually in January, April, August and November, two on a weekday evening, and two on Saturday mornings. If you would like to request an agenda item, please send your request to two weeks prior to the scheduled meeting. Normally, meetings are held at the Waverly Branch of the Enoch Pratt Library - 400 E. 33rd Street, Normal's Books & Records - 425 E. 31st Street, or the 29th Street Community Center - 300 E. 29th Street.

2020 Membership Meeting dates

  • Saturday, January 25 - 10:30 a.m., meeting room of the Enoch Pratt Free Library, Waverly Branch - 400 E. 33rd Street

  • Wednesday, April 22 - 6:30 p.m., Melba's Place, 3126 Greenmount Avenue

  • Saturday, August 15 - 10:30 a.m.; to be held via Zoom - links to be posted in AIA media the week before 

  • Wednesday, November 11 - 6:30 p.m.; to be held via Zoom - link to be posted in AIA media the week before 

Neighborhood Newsletters


Newsletters are published and delivered to all properties within the Abell community between 4 and 6 times a year. 

Deadlines for newsletter submissions:

  • January 17, Winter Issue

  • March 17, Spring Issue

  • May 17, Memorial Day/Film Series Issue

  • July 17, Street Fair Issue

  • September 17, Fall Issue

  • November 17, Holiday Issue

Community Dumpsters - 2020 dates

Dumpsters or trucks are usually placed at 31st Street near the corner of Abell Avenue. They arrive around 8 a.m. and remain until filled. No hazardous materials, please.

  • February 29

  • April 18 - Spring clean-up, dumpster or truck

  • August 29

  • October 24 - Fall Clean-up, dumpster or truck

  • November 21

Spring Cleanup - a Saturday in April; 2020 date is April 18


Memorial Day Picnic - the Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend 


Summer Film Series - Friday nights at dusk; 2020 schedule TBD

Street Fair - 2020 fair is Sunday, September 20, from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. 


Abell Community Chili Cook-off - a Sunday in early October

Parking Permit Pickup - a Saturday in late October. Renew at

Current permits will remain valid until further notice.

Potluck with the Harwood Community Association - a weeknight in mid-November; 2020 date is November 11 for a virtual meeting, 6:30 p.m.


Fall Clean-up - the Saturday before Thanksgiving; 2020 date is November 21


Holiday Caroling - usually the Sunday before Christmas


New Years Eve Progressive Dinner - December 31
