Summer Film Series to begin July 20 in new location

The Abell Summer Film Series presents the "Summer of Swayze." Films will be shown in the Waverly Main Street Park adjacent to the Farmer's Market lot off 32nd Street at Brentwood Lane, between Barclay & Greenmount, on Friday evenings at dusk (rain date is the following Saturday). All showings are free to the public.

July 20: The Outsiders, PG

The rivalry between two gangs, the poor Greasers and the rich Socs, only heats up when one gang member kills a member of the other.

 

July 27: Dirty Dancing, PG RAINED OUT

Spending the summer at a Catskills resort with her family, Frances "Baby" Houseman falls in love with the camp's dance instructor, Johnny Castle.

 

August 3: Point Break, R 

An F.B.I. Agent goes undercover to catch a gang of surfers who may be bank robbers.

 

August 10: Red Dawn, PG-13

It is the dawn of World War III. In mid-western America, a group of teenagers band together to defend their town, and their country, from invading Soviet forces.

 

August 17: Road House, R 

A tough bouncer is hired to tame a dirty bar.

 

August 24: To Wong Foo Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar! PG-13

Three drag queens travel cross-country until their car breaks down, leaving them stranded in a small town.

 

August 31: Dirty Dancing, PG

Spending the summer at a Catskills resort with her family, Frances "Baby" Houseman falls in love with the camp's dance instructor, Johnny Castle.

 

Films begin at dusk; the first film on July 20 will begin at 8:30 p.m., with subsequent films starting progressively earlier.
