We've added this new feature to our website. The past several issues of the AIA newsletters have contained recommendations for contractors sent in by our members. We're now compiling these recommendations into a list that appears on the 'Community Resources' page of our website, here. We'll add new recommendations as we receive them, so keep 'em coming! Film Summaries:

Some Like It Hot (1954)
Billy Wilder's classic comedy stars Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis as a pair of unemployed musicians who inadvertently become witnesses to the St. Valentine Day's Massacre. To escape the wrath of the gangsters, Joe (Curtis) and Jerry (Lemmon) are forced to hit the road in drag, taking the only jobs available with an all-girl band bound for Miami. Enroute, both men fall for lead singer and blond bombshell Sugar Kane, (Marilyn Monroe).
Friday, July 3rd, 8:45pm

Ghostbusters (1984)
After being kicked out of their university, parapsychology professors Spengler, Stantz and Venkman decide to go into business for themselves as professional ghost-catchers. After some initial skepticism, business is soon booming as the Ghostbusters rid New York of its undead. When a downtown skyscraper becomes the focal point of spirit activity linked to the ancient god Gozer, however, the problem may be more than the team can handle. Ghostbusters hit US screens in June of 1984 and went on to become one of the most successful comedy films of all time.
Saturday July 4th, 8:45pm

The Straight Story (1999)
For those who never thought they’d live to see a G-rated David Lynch movie. Based on the true story of Alvin Straight, a 73-year-old Iowa man determined to visit his estranged brother – despite the fact that his only means of transportation is a John Deere riding mower. Filmed along the same route that Mr. Straight traversed in 1994 from Laurens, Iowa to Mt. Zion, Wisconsin, "The Straight Story" chronicles Alvin's patient odyssey and those he meets along the way. Director David Lynch ("Blue Velvet," "The Elephant Man") is at his most direct and understated here, weaving a lyrical, meditative story that perfectly matches the sublime performance of Richard Farnsworth in the title role.
Friday July 10th, 8:45pm

Buster Keaton Double Feature – Sherlock, Jr & The General
The genius of Buster Keaton is on full view in these two classics from the silent era. In Sherlock, Jr. (1923), he plays a film projectionist turned amateur sleuth in a world with boundless opportunities for physical comedy. In The General (1927), Keaton plays a Confederate train engineer who must fight the entire Union Army to retrieve his beloved locomotive. Against a backdrop of magnificently photographed Civil War battle scenes unfolds one of the great chases in movie history. Set almost entirely aboard moving trains, Keaton's The General is physical comedy refined to elegant perfection and widely considered to be the actor-director's greatest film.
Friday July 17th, 8:45pm

Raising Arizona (1987)
Hapless hold-up man H.I. McDonough (Nicholas Cage) and police woman Edwina (Holly Hunter) marry, only to discover they are unable to conceive a child. Desperate for a baby, the pair decide to kidnap one of the quintuplets of furniture tycoon Nathan Arizona. They try to keep their crime secret, while friends, co-workers and a feral bounty hunter look to use Nathan Jr. for their own purposes. A brilliant and thoroughly original comedy from directors the Coen Brothers.
Friday July 24th, 8:45pm

Roxanne (1987)
An updated retelling of Cyrano De Bergerac. C.D. Bales (Steve Martin) is a charming small-town fire chief who just happens to have an enormous nose. When beautiful astronomer Roxanne (Darryl Hannah) arrives one summer, she catches the eye of both C.D. and one of his subordinates - hunky but dim-witted Chris. When C.D. agrees to help Chris woo Roxanne, the results are both funny and disastrous. Steve Martin is at his agile and uproarious best in this superior romantic comedy.
Friday July 31st, 8:30pm

Annie (1982)
A red-haired orphan (Aileen Quinn), yearning to break out of her dreary life in an orphanage charms billionaire Oliver "Daddy" Warbucks (Albert Finney) into adopting her--but what she really wants is to find her real parents. Carol Burnett is brilliant as Annie’s boozy nemesis.
Friday Aug. 7th, 8:30pm

Star Wars (1977)
Long, long ago, in a galaxy far, far away… This 1977 galactic adventure from director George Lucas became an immediate cultural touchstone and spawned a litany of sequels and prequels, none better than the original. Even Mark Hamill’s hammy performance can’t spoil this ground-breaking film.
Friday Aug. 14th, 8:15pm

The Jungle Book (1967)
Inspired by Rudyard Kipling’s "Mowgli" story, The Jungle Book follows the adventures of ‘man-cub’ Mowgli as he makes his way back to the human village with wise panther Bagheera to escape ruthless tiger Shere Khan. Along the way, he meets a colorful cast of characters, including mad King Louie of the Apes, the hypnotic snake Kaa and the happy-go-lucky bear Baloo, who teaches Mowgli about  the “Bear Necessities” of life.
Friday Aug. 21st, 8:00pm

The Goonies (1985)
In this thrill-a-minute adventure from director Steven Spielberg, a gang of misfits  discover a pirate treasure map and go in search of the loot.
Friday Aug. 28th, 8:00pm

Pee Wee’s Big Adventure (1985)
When his beloved bicycle is stolen, man-child Pee Wee Herman embarks on a bizarre cross-country journey to recover it. Director Tim Burton’s surreal imagery provides the perfect backdrop to Pee Wee’s cartoonish antics. A delightful, silly movie that can be enjoyed by audiences of all ages.
Friday Sept. 4th, 8:00pm

TBD – Audience Member’s Choice
Audience members at the Aug 28th and Sept 4th screenings will be entered into a random drawing – the winner gets to choose the movie!
